Fes to Merzouga desert trip Highlights

Itinerary of 5 Days desert tour from Fes to Marrakech

At seven in the morning, your driver will pick you up at your hotel or riad and take you to Merzouga, where you will cross the Middle Atlas via Irfan Midelt, Errachidia, Erfoud, and Rissani. Depending on the weather, lunch will be served in one of the cities or villages you pass. You will spend the majority of the day crossing the Atlas Mountains and beginning your descent into the Sahara Desert, passing through Berber settlements, woods, and sheer rocks. You will pause halfway through for lunch in Midelt, a city well-known for its rocks and fossils. After training, a hot shower or a swim in the pool (depending on the weather) awaits you in the Merzouga Kasbah. We’re having dinner at the Kasbah.

Following breakfast, head to the village (khamliya) where African gnawas have made their home in Morocco’s desert, seeking a better life. Next, visit the city of Rissni and its souk, where you can get a bath made of local products and eat a restaurant serving Berber pizza (medfouna). You will ride your camels into the dunes in the afternoon to uncover the mystery of the sand sea. We’re going to stop at a virgin oasis. Savor the solitude of the desert, the splendor of the natural world, and the dusk. Dinner and the night are spent in a Berber tent at the base of one of Erg Chebbi’s tallest dunes.

Get up early to witness the dawn, then ride a camel back to the sand dunes. Following breakfast and a wash, we go to Erfoud and Rissani to see the petrified marble industry before moving on to Tinjdad and the palm of Touroug. We’re going to have lunch at Todra Gorge. We will proceed via Boumalne to the Dades Gorge in the afternoon. The hotel for dinner and the night.

Following breakfast, we drive back to the Dades Valley and arrive at Boutaghrar, the meeting point of all the hues of nature. Our path is known as the “road of a thousand kasbahs,” passing through the Valley of Roses, the Skoura palm grove, and several other kasbahs and ksours. Visiting the Kasbah Amredhyle is one possibility. We will also go to the UNESCO-designated Kasbah Aït Benhaddou before spending the night in an Ouarzazate hotel.

Discover the city known for its kasbahs, which include the Taourirt World Heritage Site and one of the area’s most exquisite palaces. We’ll make a quick stop at the Ouarzazate Kasbah, which is not far from the city, to see the film studios and museum. Here, you can see a number of foreign films, like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Games of Thrones, and Babel. Twenty kilometers later, we make a right turn to see Ait Ben Haddou’s well-known kasabah. Following the visit, we will travel through the breathtaking scenery of the High Atlas Mountains and past the little-known Berber communities tucked away at the base of the enormous valleys. (Optional: we can eat lunch at one of the tichka pass’s neighborhood eateries; if not, we will go to Marrakech.)
