Tangier to Merzouga desert trip Highlights

Itinerary of 4 Days desert tour from Tangier

On the first day of your journey, we won’t meet you at the port or the airport. Instead, we’ll travel through Tetoun and the Rif Mountains, taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery until we reach Chefchaouen, one of the most striking villages on the foot. A Spanish-style square with many of hipster and artisan shops surrounding it, as well as the greatest cafes and restaurants on the rooftop, can be seen from the Rif Medina mountains in Chefchaouen. Before heading to Fez, where we will spend the night in a riad, you can have lunch there.

Breakfast and salutations as you travel over the Middle Atlas highlands south of Ifrane and Azrou. We will pause on route to view the barbarian apes in their native habitat in the cedar forests. As you approach the town of Errachidia, the scenery shifts to show desert trails and you may see views of the Middle Plateau-Atlas while traveling via the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt and down the spectacular gorges of the Ziz cut in volcanic rock. We will travel via the Ziz Valley in the direction of Erfoud, Rissani, and Merzouga after lunch. We will have mint tea, drop our bags off in a secure room, and ride a camel to a Berber camp in the Erg chebbi.

The camel ride takes about an hour and a half from the camp where we will install Berber tents for our night in the desert. The stores are well equipped with mattresses, blankets and cushions. After dinner, we will gather around the fire and enjoy the sound of traditional Berber drums under the stars.

We’ll rise early to witness the stunning dunes sunrise, and then, we’ll ride camels back to the hotel. We will depart for Tinghir and the Todra Gorges after cooling off and eating breakfast. Eventually, we will reach the Dades Valley, where we will have dinner and stay the night.

We will traverse the Dades Valley in the direction of Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate after breakfast. Visiting the Dades Valley and the Thousand Kasbah Trail presents numerous photo opportunities. We will go to Ouarzazate, dubbed “the Hollywood of Africa,” after stopping at the village of Skoura and the Valley of Roses. Lunch is served at Ait Ben Haddou’s renowned kasbah. We will go across the magnificent Tizi Ntichka Pass, which rises to a height of 2260 meters above the High Atlas Mountains, after touring this UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll pause to see the cooperative that produces argan oil and take in the breath-taking scenery. It will be afternoon when we get to Marrakech.
